Long Island masonry contractors know one of the best kept secrets to working less and making more money—the unique Alliance Gator Base tile system. Interlocking Gator Base tiles are made of a durable and light-weight polypropylene and have a number of benefits. The easy-to-install Gator Base system insulates, helping reduce effects from the freeze-thaw cycle. A layer of Gator Base replaces 6″ of excavation and crushed stone which reduces labor, dumping costs, the cost of stone, and wear and tear on machinery, not to mention shortening installation time. With reduced excavation and crushed stone usage, Gator Base is perfect for situations where the site is difficult to access or storage is limited or prohibited.
Check out this fantastic video from Alliance that explains the 6 steps to installing Gator Base:
- Excavate 12″ wider than the new paved area, 4″ deep
- Level and compact the base insuring a 1º slope
- Lay Gator Fabric 4.4 and add 3/4″ of bedding sand, compacting it down to 1/2″
- Install the Gator Base, trimming as needed
- Install pavers, slabs or tiles and the Gator Edge
- Install the polymeric sand
